Wrap-up report

Introduction

Hi everyone!! I am Monica and I am happy to share my final wrap-up report from my WPCredits course.

This report resume my contributions to the photo contribution “Photos of nature and animals”/photos team, these challenges that I confronted and the habilities that I adquired. I hope that my journey and experiences inspire others to contribute to open-source projects.

More information…

My team…

As you have seen in my recent posts I have been contributing to the photos team with my project photo contribution “Photos of nature and animals”. I contributed to that team because I love nature and I love animals and since I like to travel I have a lot of photos from my trips, I also learned how to describe photos for blind people and people with visual difficulties and I wanted to contribute to that and I feel that photography mix the technology with the love for nature which is amazing.

Learning resources

I used the course of WordPress credits that helped me a lot, I found an excellent video that explained how the photos need to be to be accepted, how to upload a photo, the internal process they do to approve them that help you learn and understand more about the standard that I needed to reach to make my contributions.

The video and guidance from my teacher was key I really felt her support and guidance trought all the course of this experience.

Challenges and solutions…

I faced some challenges, there are a lot of things new so it was a new experience, one of the challenges was to learn how to check the pixels on a photo to make sure it was not blurry and it would pass the standards to be a sucessful contribution to the photos team, I used some tools in from my photo gallery to be able to know the pixels the photos had, find the link to upload the photos was also a challenge it was not easy to find! I had to read the informacion carefully to be able to find it and I did and then the process to upload the photo was easier, sometimes the photos would take days to be approve so I tried that as soon as the photos were approve and I had more spaces to upload photos use them to manage the time better and make sure all the contributions were made on time.

My contributions

I loved to share photos to the photos team and I had a lot of photos that I wanted to share so I finally uploaded 36 photos the goal was 30 so I contributed with 6 more…

Here’s a photo of the amount of photos I uploded, some of them were landscapes, animals like reptiles, mammals, birds…

Key takeaways from the WPCredits course

I learned…

Well I actually learned a lot of things like detecting the amount of pixels on a photo and how to properly describe a photo for a blind person or a person with visual difficulties and be more empathy on that area. Something else I learned is how to connect with community and put attention to details to make sure the photos pass the standards to be accepted I actually learned a lot in the wordpress course I never did a blog before but I tried my best

New skills

I developed new skills I learned how to use the tools that my phone already had to take high quality photos, check the pixels on them which I probably would never had learned if I did not get myself into the photo team, but I am grateful because I always love to learn something new. I helped me to try to find solutions and really check documentation carefully and to be more empathy with people with visual difficulties or blind and how to properly describe photos to them.

Personal reflections and next steps

I was surprise that the blog was easier to make than I though, it was a changelle at the beggining but once you learn where the settings are is easy to make. I loved to contribute to the photos team I took a look at the photos other people upload and it was amazing photos and differents parts of the planet and how different the life can look like depending on where you live, I enjoyed to learnt how to use the settings on my phone, in the future I hope that I can continue contributing with photos from my trips…
